silent screams - taxing the poor to help themselves?

Just heard the recent news about the sudden GST hike which will be launched (I suppose) very soon. This is what I will say - the first backlash of getting mesmerized by the Progress Package and vote veto to the opposition. All the negative policies will start gushing in, drowning us to suffocation.

Back to the GST hike, how are we going to survive with the additional of 2%? It seems that everything is increasing - taxes, transportation fares etc.. .. when did we ever see them decrease due to an economic depression? I didn't! From the initial tax of 3% to 5% and now to 7%; it seems to have a 'healthy' rise throughout the past decade.

Like the high-income group whould care much about the survival of the middle and lower income groups. The rich are as if setting a challenge to the standard of living for the poor, but at the same time not letting them die off easily. The PM claimed that by increasing the GST, they will make use of the taxes "to strengthen the safety nets and tilt the balance in favour of the lower-income groups who do not benefit from the fruits of economic growth." They did 'benefit' from the fruits of economic growth (the progress package distributed by the government this year), but they were pilfered, bit by bit; and even more than what was alleged to be their bonus.

The government is having a major contradiction in the rationale for their policies. (who thinks otherwise?) What seems to be helping families with financial difficulties turns out to be like asking them to carry a boulder for life!

Will they ever hear our screams of distress when they have fallen on deaf ears?
